Local Players attend Nike Football Combine

The Nike/ESPNRISE football combine took place at Long Beach City College on Saturday Apr 24 and athletes from around the AV participated including players from Palmdale, Lancaster, East Side, Paraclete, Quartz Hill, and Rosamond High Schools.

All told, over 2100 football players from 50 different southern California schools and from places as far away as Oregon, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada showed up to have their skill level and speed documented at four events including the 40 yard dash, the shuttle, vertical jump, and kneeling Power Ball toss.

Besides having their times and skill levels measured for the individual events participants also received an overall “SPARQ” rating which averages speed, power, agility, reaction, and quickness. Instruction and motivational speeches from staff members of college level football programs as well as NFL players was provided and included talks from former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Derrick Mayes and current tight end of the Atlanta Falcons, Tony Gonzales.  Players also received a complimentary Nike Pro Workout shirt.
